This development on the headwaters of the river Nanny was completed in 2022.
I walked this development in April 2023 just to see how the scars of the enhancement had recovered and took some photographs. 400 metres had been sympathetically enhanced and in just over six months the obvious scars of recent development work had basically been naturally restored. The following photographs show when a headwater stream is sympathetically enhanced, how it does not leave any lasting visual scars and the stream quickly recovers.
Gravel and a limited amount of rock were used for the development and apart from the revetment of one bank where erosion was occurring on the outside of a bend, there are no obvious signs of any machine work or newly introduced materials. What was even more pleasing was the sight of a previously worked redd on gravel placed at the head of the protected bend.
Also please note the fencing that had been erected to protect the developed site and sapling trees which had been planted along the fenced margin to create a buffer zone, as well as the runs and riffles which had been created by introduced gravel and some rock. Although the materials may not be obvious due to spring flows, the runs and riffles they have created are visually apparent.
